Trust is the foundation for strong patient-physician relationships that lead to quality, highly individualized care, but research shows that public trust in health care is on the decline. Given the stakes, this moment requires all of us called to practice health care to act with great urgency. In a Modern Healthcare op-ed, The Permanente Federation LLC co-CEOs Maria Ansari, MD, FACC, and Ramin Davidoff, MD, discussed what physicians can do to restore patient trust, including some efforts we’re undertaking at Kaiser Permanente. https://ow.ly/URIQ50QwQnC#healthcare #trust

The Canadian Medical Association Journal published a study this month (March 2024), looking at the high rates of physician incivility in the healthcare workplace. More than 75% of health care employees have witnessed uncivil behaviour from physicians,2 and 31% of physicians report receiving weekly or daily rude, dismissive or aggressive communication from other doctors. "Incivility" is a catch all term that could describe actions like:- Interrupting or talking over someone- Sarcastic or demeaning remarks- Ignoring or excluding others- Using dismissive body language- Being rude or abrupt in person or online- many othersThe study goes on to talk about how toxic workplaces contribute to the problem and the effect that it has on patient care. What it doesn't talk about is how important it is to REPORT that behavior and the barriers to why that does not happen. Whether your a patient or a provider, reporting physician incivility comes at a cost. A lot of those times that cost isn't worth it.What if there was a way to report, but in a safer and anonymous way? Safespace Networks Ontario is providing that opportunity through the Indigenous Primary Health Care Council.Visit https://bit.ly/3uZRSZ6 to learn more.

This is exciting news! I really want to see this applied to stroke recovery. Any advancement in homecare is requires not only a new care model but a mind shift in the part of providers, policy makers, payers and patients. I am all in! “The hub will be designed as an Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR)-enabled home prototype and is expected to be completed later this year. This partnership includes collaboration with patient groups, health care providers, and the medical device industry to build the Home as a Health Care Hub. This prototype will serve as an idea lab, not only to connect with populations most affected by health inequity, but also for medical device developers, policy makers, and providers to begin developing home-based solutions that advance health equity. “ #patientcentricity #homecare #braininjury #healtcare #innovation #medtech

The hospital-at-home concept is rather interesting. I am not quite ready to share my thoughts on it. But it's important to think about the current hospital model before trying to take the inpatient to the patient. How necessary are most hospitalizations? How impactful is the average inpatient stay? How much of it is financially driven? What is the impact on caregivers?Who will be sent to the patient's home? What conditions will be covered? How will the patient's health literacy impact their outcomes? How will quality metrics be measured? What will the risk be to clinicians?
